What you'll experience
Perched at over 2,500 meters above sea level and aptly named the “New Flower”, Addis is one of the world’s highest capitals — and perhaps one of its most surprising. Founded in 1886 by Emperor Menelik II, it has never stopped reinventing itself. From wide jacaranda-lined boulevards to chaotic backstreets, from majestic churches to glass towers, from humble teashops to underground jazz bars — Addis is not one city, but many.
It’s not always easy to define. Sometimes it’s confusing. Often it’s overwhelming. But it’s never dull. And that’s exactly what makes it unforgettable.
Why Explore Addis Ababa with Us?
Because we don’t offer a scripted city tour — we offer a living experience. We tailor each visit to your curiosity, energy level, and time. Whether it’s your first day in Ethiopia or your last, we’ll help you feel the rhythm of this city — its contradictions, its charm, and its soul.
You’ll be accompanied by Amlaku Yaregal Teshome or one of our most passionate local guides — people who love this city not just for what it shows, but for what it hides.
What You Might Discover
Each tour is personalized, but here are some of the places and moments we love sharing:
The National Museum of Ethiopia
Home of Lucy, the 3.2-million-year-old fossil that redefined our understanding of humanity. Also features art, history, and Ethiopia’s powerful cultural legacy.
The Ethnological Museum
Housed in Haile Selassie’s former palace, this is one of Africa’s finest cultural museums. A brilliant introduction to Ethiopia’s many ethnic groups and social traditions.
Trinity Cathedral
A striking mix of European baroque and Ethiopian Orthodox architecture, this church holds the tomb of Emperor Haile Selassie and is rich in modern imperial history.
St. George’s Cathedral
Site of Haile Selassie’s 1930 coronation. Inside: royal robes, sacred manuscripts, and religious art that reveal Ethiopia’s deep spiritual lineage.
Addis Merkato
Not just a market — a universe. One of Africa’s largest open-air markets, Merkato is a sensory overload: chaotic, colorful, and completely alive. You’ll need a guide — and maybe a coffee break after.
Mount Entoto
The lungs of the city. At 3,200 meters, this eucalyptus-covered mountain offers sweeping views, sacred monasteries, and traces of Ethiopia’s early emperors. A breath of fresh air above the urban sprawl.
Optional Extras
Contemporary Addis: Want to explore the city’s creative side? We can include stops at modern art galleries, fashion boutiques, coffee roasters, and music venues.
Food & Culture Add-on: Dive into Ethiopian cuisine with a traditional lunch, coffee ceremony, or evening of music and dance.
