Program

Day 1
One-Day Escape to Wenchi (Approx. 300 km round trip)

Leave Addis Ababa at 7:00 am and head west on a scenic drive (approx. 150 km) into the highlands of the Oromia Region, climbing to an elevation of 3,000 meters (10,000 feet) above sea level.

Upon arrival at the Wenchi Eco-Tourism Office, begin a gentle descent to the lake (about 4 km), either on foot or by horseback. Pass through lush hills, eucalyptus groves, and traditional thatched-roof villages. Along the way, take in panoramic views of the crater rim and spot local wildlife.

At the lakeshore, board a wooden boat to the island monastery of Deber Cherkos — a place of peace, prayer, and mystery. Enjoy a picnic lunch by the water, then begin the return hike or ride to your vehicle for the drive back to Addis in the late afternoon.

Day 2 (Optional)
Lakeside Camping Experience

If you'd like to go deeper into the Wenchi experience, opt for an overnight stay by the lake. Camp under a sky ablaze with stars. Wake to the sound of birdsong and the soft rhythm of the water.
Engage with local families, explore more of the trails, or simply sit still and let nature take over.

This immersive add-on is ideal for nature lovers, photographers, or anyone seeking peace and connection. All gear, meals, and support are included.
